TRACK FRAGMENTS:
.) “Rock And A Hard Place” – The musical intro of this track opens with the music arrangement being muffled sounding. About one measure into the intro there is a left to right speaker effect then the muffled effect is turned off. There is a small drum fill that connects the muffled section with the non-muffled section. There is a huge musical change for the musical verse. The rhythm guitar riffs and the lyric lines matched perfectly. The second lyric line of the verse was done with backing vocals. There was an arrangement change for the pre-chorus. The chorus musically & lyrically had a huge hook attached to it. On the third chorus there is one lyric line that sounded like it was done with a vocal effect. It sounded like there was a couple lead guitar licks underneath the vocal lines of the outro section.
.) “My Medicine (R.O.C.K)” – The intro to this track consisted of two different rhythm guitar arrangements. Both of this arrangements where heavily influenced by mid-eighties Aerosmith. The guys really did not change the guitar arrangement for the verse so much as they broke it up and spread it out to where the bass & drum line become the main instrumentation. The chorus had a huge early eighties Poison hook to it. There is a huge drum fill connecting the second verse with the second chorus. Much like the song the solo had a classic eighties feel. After the solo there was a breakdown section. This breakdown section consisted of a backing harmony.
.) “21 'till I Die” – This track opens with a lead vocal line. The musical intro was very simple. The verse was very reminiscent of early Skid Row. There was a small arrangement change for the musical pre-chorus. The pre-chorus consisted of two different rhythm guitar arrangements. There was a huge hook of the pre-chorus. If the hook of the pre-chorus was huge then the hook of the chorus has to be gigantic!!! There is a one measure rhythm change after the second chorus for the lead guitar solo. The lead guitar solo of this track was very short.
.) “Blame It On Love” – This is a very straight forward semi-ballad.
.) “Road To Babylon” – This track opened with a repeated lead guitar effect before going into the main intro section. There was a lead vocal accent connecting the lead guitar effects and the major lead guitar solo. There was a minor lead guitar solo over the top of the main intro section. There is a couple backing harmonies underneath the lead guitar solo. The way the band wrote the musical verse consisted of the lead guitar riffs layered in between the lead vocal lines. There was an arrangement change for the musical chorus. The band arranged the ending of the second chorus just a little different than the first. For a song that had just a huge hook the lead guitar solo was very weak!
.) “Children Of The Cross” – This ballad opens with the effects of rain. Over the top of the rain effect there was an acoustic guitar arrangement. About maybe a measure into this a second guitar arrangement kicks-in underneath it. The band used the same rhythm guitar arrangement for the musical pre-verse as the one for the intro. The band kicks the song in for the musical verse. The choruses of this track ranks up there with some of the best I have ever heard!!! The lead guitar solo fit perfectly with the arrangement. After the fourth chorus there is a second lead guitar solo. This solo runs through the outro section.
.) “The Witching Hour” – This track consisted of a classic hard rock intro arrangement. There was an arrangement change for the musical verse. The way the verse was arranged was very reminiscent of Skid Row’s freshman release. The pre-chorus had a huge hook attached to it. Too me I thought the backing vocals of the pre-chorus and choruses were kind of reminiscent of early Def Leppard. It sounds like there is an underling acoustic guitar arrangement. Once again the band wrote a perfect solo for this type of arrangement. After the solo there was an arrangement change that consisted of a double-bass drum pattern.
.) “Lock up Your Daughter” - There was a small backing vocal accent over the top of this classic hard rock intro. There was an arrangement change for the musical verse. The way the arrangement was written lets the drum 7 bass line become the main focus. The drum line was done with the addition of a cowbell. There was an echo attached to the last vocal line of the first verse. There was a musical arrangement change for the musical chorus. There is a lead guitar lick and vocal accent connecting the first chorus with the second verse. There are several lead guitar licks underneath the vocals of the second verse. Just like the last three tracks this solo was no exception, it was perfectly arranged.
.) “She’s Mine” – Heavily influenced by early Danger Danger!!!
.) “What Of Our Love” – Over the top of the acoustic guitar base of this intro is an electric guitar arrangement and minor lead guitar solo. There is a small musical rest between the intro and musical verse. The musical verse opened with an acoustic guitar. The band kicks-in at the end of the verse. Then the song goes back to just the acoustic for the opening of the chorus. There are several lead guitar licks underneath the vocals of the chorus. The band changed the sound of the acoustic for the second verse. This ballad has a lot of peaks and valleys making it very layered sounding.
.) “Desert Bloom” -Instrumental
Formed in 2002 in Malanö Sweeden ‘New Religion’ is just the band’s second full length release. Crazy Lixx’s hard rock sound and song writing is flawless. The band mainly used the same blueprint Skid Row used on their freshman CD released on January 24, 1989. If you’re into eighties style heavy metal then you will love this release!!!
