TRACK FRAGMENTS:
1.) “I’ll Never Leave You” – This intro opens with a small pick slide before going into the main musical intro.  The main intro had a very huge musical hook attached to it.  There was a small double tracked lead guitar lick leading into the musical change of the verse.  In the way the band arranged the lyric lines along with the music was very reminiscent to early Dokken.  The opening lyric line of the musical chorus was echoed.  The backing harmonies of the choruses had an early Stryper sound to them.  The lead guitar solo connects the second verse with the second chorus.
2.) “Mystery Man” – This intro opens with a short drum fill.  After the drum fill a bass line kicks-in over the top a standard drum rhythm.  There is a small effect that kicks-in the main body of the intro.  There are a couple backing harmony sections over the top of the main body of the intro.  Connecting the intro with the musical verse there was a very simple drum fill.  Paul really shows his vocal ability on the vocal lines of this opening verse.  There is a small rhythm change for the musical verse.  The drum fill that connected the musical intro to the musical verse was also used to connect the There is a small musical change for the short pre-chorus.  The guys kept the musical arrangements of the chorus very simple letting Paul’s lead vocals carry the song.   Paul’s lead vocal accents are amazing!!!  There was a small drum fill along with a few vocal accents over the top of the musical arrangement that led to the lead guitar solo.  The lead guitar solo for this song suited the song well.  However it was just not that impressive.  I was actually more impressive with the lead guitar work over the top of the outro.
3.) “Livin’ For The Promise” –This intro consisted of a lead guitar rhythm arrangement over the top of a different rhythm arrangement.  This underling rhythm arrangement was played using just fill-in chords.  Both guitars break off of their rhythm and play a few lead licks to connect the intro with the musical pre-verse.  The way the guys arranged the rhythm riffs of the musical pre-verse lets the drum rhythm bleed through.  Both guitar rhythms kick-in for the musical verse.  This gives the verse a very thick heavy sound.  The band kept the choruses very basic and used the same rhythm arrangement as the intro.  The lead guitar solo is after the third chorus.  There was a breakdown section after the lead guitar solo.  This breakdown section leads into the outro section.
4.) “Miracle” – There was a double-tracked minor lead guitar solo over the top of this intro.  For the musical verse the guys drop the electric guitar arrangements for an amplified acoustic. About halfway through the verse the band kicks the song in.  There is a small musical arrangement change for the chorus.  So far, this song is the bands highlight song.  There is a minor lead guitar solo underneath the lead vocal lines of the second verse.  After the second chorus there are two different lead guitar solos.
5.) “Saints Battalion” – This intro consisted of Eddie Van Halen progressive style lead guitar rhythm over the top of a second lead guitar rhythm.  There is a small lead vocal echo of the title connecting the intro with the musical verse.  There is a small musical change for the musical verse.  At times bleeding through the music arrangement you can hear a keyboard riff.  Connecting the fist chorus with the second verse there is a small lead guitar solo.  The major lead guitar solo is after the second chorus.  This solo is probably the best on the release so far.
6.) “Kingdom Of Rock” – Heavily reminiscent by Dokken’s  -  ‘Tooth And Nail’release!
7.) “The God Of Life” – This intro opens with two single rhythm guitar riffs before going into the main musical intro.  There is a small lead guitar lick connecting the musical intro with the musical verse.  The band used the same musical arrangement for the musical verse as the intro with one exception.  For the musical verse the band added several scattered lead guitar licks.  Paul’s vocals are very reminiscent to early Don Dokken.  The chorus was very short and simple.  There are several very cool lead guitar licks underneath the backing harmonies of the chorus.  This song has a very early eighties breakdown section.  The outro section was taken right from any eighties fake book.
8.) “One Of A Kind”  - This track opens with a single rhythm guitar riff.  Underneath the rhythm arrangement of the musical pre-verse you can hear a small acoustic guitar arrangement bleeding through.  There is a small arrangement change of the musical verse.  The chorus had a huge eighties AOR feel to it.  There was a small arrangement change for the twin lead guitar solo.  This is the only time the rhythm arrangement really changes.
9.) “World Without Love” – This song had a very simple feel to it.
10.) “Rock In Victory” – This track was balls to the walls heavy metal!!!
11.) “Hyperdrive” – This rhythm guitar of this intro was done with an echo giving it a Scorpions sound.  This changes the main body of the intro to a more progressive feel.  There was a small musical rest connecting the musical intro with the musical verse.  There is no musical change for the musical verse.  The musical change does not happen until the musical chorus.  There is a mean lead guitar riff connecting the musical chorus with the musical verses.  If it was not for this and the lead guitar solo the song would be repetitive in relation to the rest of the songs on the CD.
12.) “Marching On” – Classic metal 101!!!!
1987 California Metal Sessions:
13.) “Spiritual Warfare” – Just Utterly Amazing!!!
14.) “Marching On”  - Just Utterly Amazing!!!

Originally recorded in 1988 ‘First Watch’ was produced by Stryper guitarist Oz Fox.  It says in tne linear notes that Oz made the band go through the songs ten times in a row night after night.  Doing this as boring as it had to have been, really paid off!  If you a fan of Stryper and early Dokken you should definitely check it out!!!
