TRACK FRAGMENTS:
1.) “Tattoos & Tequila” –The intro to this track consisted of Jeff playing a very simple electric picking rhythm. I guess the best description I can give is the effects pedal Jeff used made the rhythm guitar track sound like a cassette tape where the tape had been stretched. The drum line of the intro consisted of a tom-tom pattern. There is a small snare crack at the end of the musical intro. For the musical verse Zoltan switches the drum line from a tom-tom pattern to a standard drum rhythm. Jeff not only switches the rhythm guitar riff however he changed the effects that was used for the intro to a distorted guitar sound. It sounded like Jeff overdubbed a second rhythm guitar track underneath the first one. This second rhythm sounded like it was done using the talkbox effect. There is a small drum fill connecting the opening musical verse with the musical change underneath the first lyric line. The rhythm riff Jeff plays for this section lets the drum line bleed through. Zolton’s hi-hat micing for this track had an amazing sound. For the musical verse Jeff drops down to just one rhythm guitar. In between the rhythm guitar riffs and the vocal lines there is a small lead guitar effect. For the musical pre-chorus the guys same musical arrangement as the one that was used for the intro section. Vince double-tracked the vocal lines of the chorus. After Vince every time sings the lyric “tequila” there is a small vocal echo. To separate the first verse from the second Vince double-tracked several of his lead vocal lines. One of the rhythm guitars also changes its guitar riff to an almost lead guitar lick. There is a small breakdown section connecting the second chorus with the lead guitar solo. The outro consisted of a lead vocal echo.

5.) “Another Bad Day”(original song) – Written by Nikki Sixx, James Michael, Tracii Guns, Kevin Kadish. This track was recorded as a demo for Mötley’s Crüe’s – ‘New Tattoo’ released on July 11, 2000. I was completely blown away by this song. An though Nikki wrote it for Mötley Vince makes it his own. This may very well be the best vocal performance I have ever heard Vince do!!!!

‘Tattoos & Tequila’ is the first solo release by Mötley’s Crüe lead vocalist since is 1995 ‘Carved In Stone’ CD. With the exception of tracks 1 & 5 (“Tattoos & Tequila’s” & “Another Bad Day”) the tracklisting is made up of seventies cover songs. This handpicked covers songs range from The Hollies & CCR to The Sex Pistols. These covers show there is a lot more to Vince’s musical taste than just the hard rock/glam punk/heavy metal genre. Of the three solo efforts Vince has recorded this is by far the best! Vince was laying vocal tracks down one time and after several takes he finally got it, Vince replied “even a blind squirrel will find a nut every now and then!” As for Vince’s solo stuff this is by far his nut!!!! This is one hell of a release and an absolute must buy!!!
