SCRAP METAL
NASHVILLE, TN
…All that talent onstage at the same time; hard, fast, in your face rock n’ roll… so you guys thought the first Scrap Metal show was pretty intense, yeah? We did, too! The concert that left everyone wondering, “So, what’s next?” Well, within days of the first, a second show was already in the works; this one to be part of NSAI’s Tin Pan South festival in Nashville, TN. It didn’t take long for fans to catch the ‘sky’s the limit’ vibe the supergroup has become known for, so needless to say, this one had everyone on the edge of their seats. We held a ticket giveaway contest here at Blast that started out geared toward the Nashville area, but within hours of word getting out, emails started pouring in from everywhere, with people willing to drive five hundred plus miles to be there (and that was before the entire guest list was released)! The show was held at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, and let me tell you, the pictures of nice, neat rows of chairs featured on the venue’s website for fans to, uh, sit in? NOT!!! Standing room only for this one, kids, and we’re talking about a near-capacity crowd here! As for the guest list? Well, let’s just say if the guys keep this up, we’re going to have to give them their own links page! I could list them by name for you, but hey, the best part of writing a concert review is getting to do it all again….
So here we are at the Cannery Ballroom in downtown Nashville (a beautiful city, by the way, liberally decorated with more music notes than I’ve ever seen in any songbook), with a number of people I’m glad I don’t have to be the one to count. Cameras in place, this one also being filmed as part of the band’s upcoming reality TV show, it’s not long before the Scraps take the stage, presented by 105.9 The Rock, an extremely cool classic rock station. Mark Slaughter, Matt and Gunnar Nelson, and Kelly Keagy, this time joined by Gary Corbett on keys and David Graef on guitar, kicked off the show with the Nelson classic, "Love and Affection", followed by Slaughter’s crowd pleaser "Up all Night", with fan participation easily as loud as that of the CT show (they probably still heard us in valet parking up there!). Night Ranger favorite "Sing Me Away" had the crowd with Kelly word for word, and "After the Rain" was, once again, performed flawlessly. "Don’t Tell Me You Love Me" left no doubt as to the number of Night Ranger die-hards in Nashville, and if the there wasn’t enough of a party going on up there already, CJ Snare joined us for "Love of a Lifetime" then continued with Firehouse band mate, Perry Richardson and the crowd on a slammin’ version of the megahit "Don’t Treat Me Bad".
Next up was a beautifully performed version of John Waite’s hit “Missing You” sung by the man who wrote it, Chas Sandford. After that, Survivor’s Jim Peterik took over vocals on the .38 Special fave, “Hold on Loosely”, and “Eye of the Tiger”  (gotta love that one live). Believe it or not, there was still room on the stage for songwriter Alex Call to join us for “8675309, Jenny”, hit he wrote in the Tommy Tutone days (are we in touch with your inner teenager yet?), and Mark Slaughter jumped in again on vocals for the Slaughter ballad “Fly to the Angels” which he dedicates to America’s servicemen and women.
The night, of course, wouldn’t have been complete without Mr. Big’s Eric Martin to come out and shake the place down with “Daddy”, followed by his awesome version of the Cat Steven’s classic “Wild World”.  With an energy that won’t quit, Eric rocked us through “Alive and Kickin’” and “To Be With You”. Next up, Nashville-based singer/songwriter, Deanna Johnston, performed Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop”, followed by Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian”, which featured Gunnar Nelson on drums and Kelly singing up front with us.
Pretty cool, huh? After major turnouts at the first two Scrap Metal events, the boys are in demand in every corner of the world, with requests from all fifty states to Japan and Australia. If you want to see them* in your area, check out their myspace page and go to the ‘demand it’ banner to put in your request.  This one’s not to be missed!!!

*We use the term ‘them’ very loosely….who will rock with Scrap Metal in your town? Could be anybody…or everybody…your guess is as good as ours…enjoy!!!*
