TRACK FRAGMENTS:
1.) "Get Off"-This track opens with a fairly standard
eighties metal intro. When the verse kicks in the vocal arrangement has a
very early Faith No More" sound to it. The verses has a twelve-not hi-hat
pattern, then make a musical change for the choruses. The chorus has a
certain intensity to it. The chorus has that live encore feel to it.
The solo was very over shadowed by the background music.
2.) "Crash"-The pre-verse kicks in right off the bat. There is
really no intro to this track. From the verse you can hear ruminants of
the Black Crows. But the Black Crows influence really doesn't show until
the chorus. At time Curtis sounds just like Chris Robinson of the
Black Crows. During the chorus there is a minor solo underneath the vocal
line. The music arrangement is very intense while the vocal lines are very
laid back this type of mixture worked well with this song. The main solo
for the song was very short.
3.) "Human Nature"-This track opens with a stinking old time rock
groove. The piano section brings out the vocals of the verse. If the
first track reminded you of The Black Crows then you will be very impressed with
the chorus of this track. If you heard this chorus and did not know who it
was you would swear it was the Crows. In between the chorus and verse
there is a real cool one bar guitar riff, that really make the music shine.
During the second verse there are several lead guitar scattered scattered
through out that really accent the vocal lines. I really get off on this
style of music it's what makes music fun.
4.) "Cummin' On"-This track opens with a lead scale guitar pattern.
The vocal lines of the verse are of an intense arrangement, and the simple
twelve-note hi-hat switch pattern really expresses this. The chorus really
shows Curtis's vocal talent. The solo was done with a wah-wah.
Before the solo there are several lead scales though the chorus repeats.
5.) "On My way"-This track opens with an amplified acoustic. It
sounds like they added a vocal effect on Curtis's vocals. The hi-hat of
the verse has a real crisp sound. I don't know how they accomplished it,
but it fits the song perfectly. For the pre-chorus and chorus they drop
the vocal effect. The chorus also shows Curtis's vocal ability. For
the second verse they turn the keyboard section up which really accents the
vocals. The song is begging for a string arrangement. I was kind of
shocked they chose to use an electric for the solo instead of an acoustic.
The song fades out with the acoustic rhythm.
6.) "Crack Song"-This track open with a very simple guitar arrangement
with a huge bass line and drum pattern. The guitar arrangements for the
verse have a very George Lynch sound to them. The chorus has a very catchy
hook. I really liked the lyrics to this track crack has been a epidemic
for years and it's about time an artist writes a song that lyrically simple
enough to where fans don't have to use a lot of brain power to understand it.
7.) "Low N Lonely"-This ballad opens with a drum pattern. The
guitar arrangement is very simple with a relaxed feel. At times the vocal
arrangement has a Geoff Tate Robert Plant feel. Now that's arrangement
wise not sound. The chorus shows Curtis's vocal strength. After the
chorus there is a small blues lead riff. You can hear a lot of hard rock
influences on the vocal and musical arrangement. The solo has a very blues
feel to it. Just laid back into a solid groove.
8.) "The Earth is chokin'"-Guitar wise the verse is almost a complete
copy of the rhythm guitar section of Kiss"s "War Machine". The chorus is
very melodic with huge backing vocals. The short solo is by far the best
on the release.
9.) "Sex Junkie"-This track opens with a standard metal guitar intro.
The piano arrangements highlight the vocals of the verse. This is also
another song on the release that has huge backing vocals. Lyrically the
song reminds me of early metal bands like Faster Pussycat. The solo did
not fit very well with the arrangement. it should have been done in a
different style.
10.) "Cold Cocked"-This track opens with vocals and a blistering
guitar arrangement. The intro has a small lead rhythm. The verse is
very up-tempo and intense. Through the verse there are a couple very cool
lead guitar scale rhythms. All-in-all the song is a pretty standard hard
rocking song that made for a great closer.
If your into the Black Crows and non-mainstream metal groups
like Faster Pussycat, Older Great White, and Jackyl then you'll love Boloney
Ponyz. The lyrics and music arrangements are very simple but well
structured. Which is what most metal fans like something that's not to
technical. And with Boloney Ponyz that what you get. The CD is
definably worth checking out.
